Root (Nexus 7) Android 4.2.2 from Linux – Step by step

  1. Download ASDK for Linux
  2. unzip downloaded archive
  3. Turn on command line, go to thw directory where you downloaded SDK
  4. # ./android-sdk-linux/tools/android

    Select tools

  5. Click “Install 2 packages”
  6. Download proper ClockworkMod Recovery package for your device
  7. Download zip SuperSU
  8. Copy SuperSU zip file into your device’s main storage.
  9. Power off your device, disconnect it from your computer and then turn it on in fast-boot mode. For Nexus 7 it is Power and Volume Down buttons, press them at once.
  10. You will see a screen like this one
  11. Login as root on your computer, connect your device by USB cable and execute this command:
    • # ./android-sdk-linux/platform-tools/fastboot devices

    • now you should see your device under the command
    • 015d2d429043f608 fastboot

  12. Now push downloaded ClockworkMode into your device by this command:
    • # ./android-sdk-linux/platform-tools/fastreboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-6.VERSION-grouper.img

  13. Using Volume Up/Down keys find “Recovery” on your device, press Power button to select.
  14. Find (main storage) where you pushed SuperSU and install it as zip
  15. Go back
  16. If you see SuperSU on applications list after rebooting, your device was successfully rooted.
